Netflix vs Hulu: Which Is Better in 2026?
The short version: Netflix is the bigger, global, binge-first library; Hulu is the US home of current TV and FX's prestige series. If you want the widest range of originals, international drama and films wherever you live, choose Netflix. If you want this season's network episodes the day after they air, plus Shōgun, The Bear and Only Murders in the Building, choose Hulu.
Netflix vs Hulu at a glance
| Factor | ||
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Worldwide | United States (inside Disney+ elsewhere) |
| Best for | Originals, international series, films | Current-season TV, FX dramas, comedy |
| Current TV | Few network shows, mostly later seasons | Many ABC and FX episodes the day after airing |

| Live TV | Live events only | Hulu + Live TV plan with channels |
| Bundles | Standalone, or through carriers | Bundled with Disney+ and ESPN |
Catalog and originals
Netflix releases original series and films every week across every genre, and its non-English slate — Korean drama, Spanish thrillers, Japanese anime — is unmatched. Hulu's library is smaller but leans on what Netflix lacks: current-season network TV and FX's critically acclaimed shows, which stream on Hulu in the US.
Here are the highest-rated shows on each service by viewer rating. On both lists anime ranks high, and a few titles stream on both services.

Next-day TV vs binge drops
This is the clearest difference. Hulu carries many ABC and FX episodes the day after they air on cable or broadcast, so it works as a replacement for live TV schedules. Netflix mostly drops whole seasons at once and gets network shows years later, if at all. If you follow shows week by week, Hulu wins. If you prefer to binge finished seasons, Netflix suits you better.
Hulu is moving into Disney+
Disney announced in 2025 that it is folding Hulu fully into Disney+, with one combined app replacing the standalone Hulu app. Hulu stays as a brand and as the general-entertainment section inside Disney+, and outside the US that section is where Hulu's shows appear. If you already pay for Disney+, check whether your plan includes Hulu before adding a second subscription.
Who should choose which?
- Choose Netflix if you live outside the US, watch international series or anime, or want the largest steady stream of new originals.
- Choose Hulu if you're in the US and want this season's TV the day after it airs, FX dramas, or a bundle with Disney+ and ESPN.
- Choose both if you watch current TV and binge originals. They overlap only in a handful of licensed titles, mostly anime.
